Latest Montreal mafia bust opens door for new Rizzuto family leadership

Massive organized crime raids in Canada, including “Operation Magot” led to the arrest of Leonardo Rizzuto and Stefano Sollecito two alleged pillars of the new Montreal mafia leadership group.

After the death or long time Montreal mob boss Vito Rizzuto a new Montreal mafia leadership table was formed to lead the Rizzuto crime family as it moved into the post-Vito era. Authorities in connection with the Magot operation labeled Rizzuto and Sollecito as latest heads of the mafia in Montreal. The raids targeted not only the mafia but also leaders of the Hells Angels and influential street gangs which had formed alliances with the mob.

With the two main pillars of the new Montreal mafia leadership group now off the streets, many wonder if new mob leaders will emerge. Sources close to the mob in Montreal believe that Francesco Arcadi and his top lieutenant Lorenzo Giordano as top contenders to become the new Montreal mafia leaders. Arcadi has been a long time loyal Rizzuto family member who once served as the interim leader of the family back in mid 2000’s after arrest of godfather Vito Rizzuto. Both Arcadi and Giordano were convicted during “Operation Coliseum” back in 2006 and are nearing the end of long prison sentences.

According to reports from earlier this year Acardi had sent indications to the new leadership table that he intended to take back control upon his release. Many wondered if perhaps this may have led to a power struggle between an Arcadi faction and the new era of mob leaders leading to more unrest within the Rizzuto family. With the new leadership table being partially dismantled with the recent arrests of Rizzuto and Sollecito it may open the door for Arcadi to step in unopposed and take the reigns and once again become the Rizzuto family boss.
