Luca DiMatteo an alleged acting capo in the Colombo crime family and two mob associates have been indicted for racketeering conspiracy. The 10 count indictment includes various charges including illegal sports betting, loansharking, and extortion. The indictment is tied to the mafia activity by the crew from 2009 to 2015 in Brooklyn and other area’s according to court documents. One of the two associates charged in the case was DiMatteo’s nephew Lukey DiMatteo.
DiMatteo is described in court documents as a long time member of the Colombo family of Cosa Nostra serving for several years as an acting captain in charge of a crew of members and associates. According to the feds Luca and Lukey participated in a extortion scheme of a local business which lasted for more then ten years picking up payments every two weeks. They are also each charged with loansharking counts with Lukey separately charged with an additional extortion charge tied to an illegal gambling business being operated out of a Brooklyn gambling club.
The defendants were arraigned in the Brooklyn federal court house before US Magistrate Judge Cheryl Pollak. Acting United States Attorney Cunie said along with the partners in the FBI they are committed to defeating organized crime and will not tolerate the extortion of local business people using violence or the threat of violence and will shut down illegal gambling operations in neighborhoods.
