The feds busted ten suspected New York mobsters including Bonanno crime family acting boss Joseph Cammarano Jr. on racketeering charges.
The recently unsealed federal indictment charged the alleged wiseguys with a variety of crimes that took place between 2012 to 2018 including extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, and drug dealing. Also charged along with Cammarano were John “Porky” Zanocchio and Simone Esposito identified as Bonanno family consiglieres along with suspected captains Joseph “Joe Valet” Sabella and George “Grumpy” Tropiano. According to the feds, the Bonnano mobsters met with members and associates of other New York Mafia families to resolve disputes over criminal activities.
Cammarano reportedly became the Cosa Nostra families acting boss back in 2015 in an effort to stabilize the faltering organization. He is the son of a former mafia underboss who died in prison and is a Navy veteran who once served in an elite patrol unit aboard a nuclear submarine. He took over the crime families day to day operations while official boss Michael “The Nose” Mancuso remains a guest of the government. The indictment also charged Bonanno family soldier Albert “Al Muscles” Armetta with beating an unidentified victim on Halloween in 2015 for the purpose of gaining entrance into the family. Domenick Miniero and Joseph “Joey Blue Eyes” Santapaolo were also charged and identified as made members of the Bonanno family.
Suspected Lucchese crime family soldier named Eugene “Boobsie” Castelle and Genovese crime family soldier Ernest “Butch” Montevecchi were also charged for teaming up with Bonanno family members on one or more criminal schemes.
