Philly mob boss Ligambi not guilty now seeks freedom

After three weeks of deliberations the jury in the latest Philadelphia mafia trial acquitted reputed Philly mob boss Joseph “Uncle Joe” Ligambi on five charges and deadlocked on four others.

The case targeted the alleged illegal gambling and loan sharking rackets being run by Ligambi and the Philly mafia. The government’s case was considered shaky by many going to trial as it involved no violent crimes like murder and a key turncoat witness who supplied key wiretap evidence Nicholas “Nicky Skins” Stefanelli had committed suicide. Now Ligambi is looking to get back on the streets of Philadelphia as his lawyers seek bail while federal prosecutors decide if they want to retry him on the deadlocked charges.
