Nicholas Santora a reputed captain for former underboss in the Bonanno crime family had his bid for home confinement due to medical reasons denied according to the Manhattan district attorney’s office.
The aging mobster is on trial along with fellow mobsters Vito Badamo, Anthony Santoro, and Ernest Aiello all busted back in 2013. The New York mafia crew led by Santora is facing charges of enterprise corruption, including illegal gambling, drug dealing, and loansharking. Santora’s lawyer requested bail and home confinement because of the now 73-year-old wiseguys poor health which the family claims is deteriorating.
“Nicholas Santora”
The alleged NY mafia capo has been in prison for approximately three years but has recently been relocated to Bellevue Hospital. According to court records, multiple medical experts testified as to the defendant’s condition, including a documented history of falls including recent events. But an expert for the prosecution who examined the aging Bonanno family mobster testified that he was aware, alert, and even engaging, showing no signs of concussion due to the falls. He recommended Santora stay housed at Bellevue Hospital as he showed no signs of psychiatric impairment or any other brain-related impairments.
But the defense has claimed that the New York mob captain suffers from an array of medical problems including blurred vision and dizziness which has led to multiple falls including a couple recently. A family doctor who submitted an earlier report claimed in his opinion Santora may have suffered a traumatic brain injury from these falls with each one worsening his condition. According to the report the falls continued to happen at the hospital and at one point Santora was found face down on the floor. But the judge didn’t bite on the defense’s claims and has ordered the mob captain to remain at the hospital as the mafia trail continues.

Problem is these aging mobsters have used these medical related tricks and excuses to attempt to get out of jail and or to get reduced sentences so many times that now judges are more reluctant to bend and believe every claim. Although it seems like a very clear difference in Santora’s case from one side to the others medical reports. Sure looks like odds are these guys are facing a conviction and some added time behind bars.
the problem is its hard to tell if the defense are telling the truth wiseguys now more than ever are active in the mob in there 70s and 80s even 90s with the famous case of sonny franchese my point being its hard to tell if there is really something wrong with these guys they are always crying about health problems and use it to there advantage to stay active now nicky could be telling the truth but its very hard to get real proof the feds also have there own motive in making him seem normal.
Your right its real tough these days as some of these old guys are active even though age would have one believe they would have long retired. Makes it a tough call for a judge.
Don’t think it’s tough at all. Get a f*****g doctor up there to tell them his problems. If it’s severe get him the fuck outta jail where they give two shits if you die in your cell.
Well these aging Mafiosi have used “medical problems” hundreds of times over the year as a negotiating tool for lighter sentences. Your right its not as hard to determine if they are ill more so what I meant was even being sick its hard to determine just how influential they remain and how high the risk factor of them getting back involved in the families business is if they are tendered a lighter sentence or released due to those illnesses.
After reading my comment I seemed to come off as pissed lol maybe I was a little. It’s just that I hate that some old guy has to rot in a cell cause he has bad “friends”. I’ve read alot recently about mistreatment in prisons and it just touched off a sore subject as I’ve had family members in prison mistreated as well.
I pretty much got where you were coming from and I agree the prison system as a whole is a mess and when it comes to housing sick and medically challenged inmates its even worse.
