Vincent Asaro an alleged member of the Bonanno crime family pleaded guilty to ordering an arson attack back in 2012.
The 82-year-old mobster ordered a mafia associate to set fire to the car of a motorist who had cut him off while driving in Howard Beach. When talking about the incident in court Mr. Asaro said: “I made arrangements with this person to take care of it and it was done.” A three man crew which included John J. Gotti the namesake grandson of former New York Mafia boss John Gotti carried out the arson attack. Gotti also pleaded guilty to arson charges and admitted to his role as the driver of the getaway car.

In a court memo from March that opposed bail for the Asaro prosecutors claimed that his criminal activities had not slowed with age. They also maintained that he has been a prominent member of the Bonanno family for more than 30 years. Both men are due back in court on Oct. 24 for sentencing and face up to 20 years behind bars for their crimes. Another co-defendant in the case Matthew “Fat Matt” Rullan also plead guilty and according to court documents was responsible for setting the vehicle ablaze. Gotti is already serving an eight-year prison term for a previous conviction for running an extensive illegal drug ring.

Federal Judge Allyne Ross also offered Asaro a chance to change lawyers since his current attorney Elizabeth Macedonio also represents his nephew and fellow mobster Ronald Giallanzo in a separate case. The judge noted that having a lawyer that also represents other wiseguys could make it dangerous for Asaro to potentially become a government witness. She warned that since both he and Giallanzo were both part of the same organized crime family that it had the potential to cause a conflict of interest. But the veteran mafioso clearly informed the court that he was no rat and would never cooperate against his nephew or anyone for that matter maintaining the long held Cosa Nostra code of silence.
Asaro was able to beat 2015 charges for his alleged role in the infamous Lufthansa robbery at Kennedy Airport but wasn’t so lucky this time around.
Well it was pretty clear from the start he was not gonna beat the rap here like he did in the Lufthansa heist case. The feds were not happy losing that case which was fairly high profile so they were not gonna take any chances this time around. Wouldn’t be shocked to see them throw the book at him here and slap with him a very stiff sentence. Don’t think it matters much as far as the Bonanno family is concerned as he seemed to be on the outs on the street.
Well, he’s no rat. He definitely gets points for that, but this whole thing was really stupid. He couldn’t just lay low after that huge victory, and for what- road rage? Wtf!
This guy is a character for sure. I remember reading an article about him. I think it was something written by Kenji Gallo. He was claiming that Asaro was always a brokester even dressing like a slob and what not. I’ll give him some credit for being a tough old dude. He seems like a total moron for this whole case over bullshit road rage but I guess thats just the way he rolls haha. The guy is in his 80’s, just beat a major “Life Sentence ” type case and then does this nonsense. I just dont get it?? At the end of the day he has it put on record that he will never rat!! I can respect at least that aspect of who he is. Especially considering if the Feds do give him a max sentence then it basically is Life for him at his age. Maybe he just doesn’t give a fuck anymore !!! Gotta watch out for a guy who’s got nothing to lose. Gotti’s grandson is plenty young so he’ll make out ok even if they hammer him. Just a strange caper all the way around.

Oh I definitely don’t believe much from him. I mostly was just using that as a reference point. I could tell straight away when I read his book that he was a big talker and a braggart. He makes a lot of outrageous claims. He goes on to say that he became a super badass MMA fighter yet where are all his pro fight videos…He is definitely his own biggest fan!

Yeah, I’ve hung out with Slayer many times. Jeff was a really cool guy- sucks he’s gone. I figured that was a good screen name.
