Bonanno crime family mobster Vincent Asaro has been sentenced to eight years behind bars for ordering mafia underlings to set a car on fire.
The 82-year-old wiseguy was upset after a motorist in Queen cut him off in traffic back in 2012 leading him to seek retribution. Asaro admitted to his role in the attack and pleaded guilty to arson back in June and was sentenced to far more time than what federal guidelines set out as punishment. Prosecutors urged Judge Allyne R. Ross to consider Asaro’s previous conduct and his life in organized crime when determining his sentence. He had just been acquitted back in 2015 in connection with the infamous 1978 Lufthansa heist.
“Vincent Asaro”
According to prosecutors, Asaro has held various positions in the Bonanno family of the New York Mafia over the years and though he is alleged to have engaged in various crimes including murder he had largely managed to avoid being punished. Judge Ross told the court that in deciding on the eight-year term she had given weight to the crimes Asaro was acquitted of in the Lufthansa case that she also presided over. She noted that even though he was acquitted she was firmly convinced that the government had proven its case against him. Asaro’s lawyer Elizabeth Macedonio argued that her client should not receive a lengthy prison term partially based on charges that a jury has already decided were less than verifiable.
Macedonio said in earlier court papers that the case against her client smacked of vengeful blindness by prosecutors who had failed to get a conviction against Asaro back in 2015. He reacted to the sentence with disgust grumbling “I don’t care what happens to me at this point” then looking at the judge and saying “What you sentenced me to is a death sentence anyway.” The judge said, “she had no illusion that prison will result in Asaro’s rehabilitation or bring an end to his “lifelong career as a member of the Mafia” and that he remained dangerous to the public. Vincent who once held the rank of captain in the Cosa Nostra family had seemingly lost a vast majority of his influence over the last few years.

Feds were pissed when Asaro beat em in that Lufthansa case and I think most figured that a fairly harsh sentence was coming here. I am not sure this will be a “death sentence” for Asaro although there have been some reports of him being in poor health of late so it could be. But these aging mafiosi often find a way to hang around a lot longer than expected.
His lawyer screwed him john dont know what she was thinking she told him to take that plea he thought he was getting three years turns out the plea he took allowed the judge to give him up to 20 years apparently he got quite agitated in court when he found out he was looking at serious time a few weeks ago too late at that point already taken the plea probably explains his reaction in court
So i am not surprised he got 8 years he will die inside and its own fault his stupidity came back to haunt him because this entire Asaro thing was ridiculous the guy always makes stupid decisions
Really one of those stupid things he has done and your right this time one finally came back to bite him. Saw somewhere that he was reportedly having some heart problems again so yeah think odds are he may not make it out.
Hope all has been well on your end!
I have heard rumors of this would not surprise me and even if he doesn’t doing 8 years at any age is hard hes 82 at that age going in must be hell
everything’s been good thanks just very busy hope everything is well with you aswell.
Ridiculous. He got himself jammed up like a dumbass, but using his aquittal and Not Guilty verdict against him in sentencing is an outrage! This cunt of a judge should be thrown off the bench! Unbelievable…
Will be interesting to see how this is handled when he appeals which he seems sure to do.
Off topic here, but why hasn’t it been mentioned that Bad Blood is now out for viewing. I watched it and was wondering if anyone else here have seen it. Any thoughts?
