Former New England mafia leader Francis Salemme arrested for murder

According to reports former New England mafia leader Francis “Cadillac Frank” Salemme has been arrested and charged with murdering a witness.

Court records indicate the murder took place on May 10, 1993, which is the same date that Boston nightclub owner Steven A. DiSarro was killed although he has not yet been identified as the victim. Authorities discovered DiSarro’s remains earlier this year in Providence. Cadillac Frank has been living in the witness protection program after turning rat and cooperating in the prosecution for James “Whitey” Bulger.

Former Boston mobster Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi told state and federal authorities that he walked in on the DiSarro murder at Salemme’s home back in 2003 according to a DEA report. Cadillac Frank had strong ties to the Winter Hill Gang run by Whitey Bulger and Stephen Flemmi. Salemme has long denied the allegations made by Flemmi that he watched his son strangle DiSarro and then helped to dispose of his body. Former New England mob captain Bobby DeLuca who also turned rat was recently indicted for lying to the feds about his role in the DiSarro mafia hit after he began cooperating.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, the former Cosa Nostra leader is set to appear in US District Court in Boston on Wednesday.
