Joseph Corozzo Sr. also known as Jo Jo the former Gambino crime family consigliere has been released from a halfway house after serving over seven years behind bars.
Corozzo was indicted back in 2008 as part of a massive investigation into the Gambino family called Operation Old Bridge. He agreed to plead guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges and was sentenced to 46 months behind bars. Five months before his release, he was indicted again along with over 100 alleged New York mafia members and hit with drug distribution charges which led to an added five year prison sentence.

He was imprisoned at a low security institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey until last October when he was transferred to a Brooklyn reentry center. He was officially released from custody on January 5, 2016 and is now free to return to the streets of New York. According to the feds Corozzo a longtime powerful captain in the mafia family moved up in ranks and allegedly held the position of consigliere in the Gambino family for several years. It is unclear as to what his position in the Cosa Nostra family he will fall into upon his return to the streets. Changes within the Gambino family hierarchy took place while he was away, including a alleged change at consigliere according to various sources.
The current Gambino family leadership, including alleged boss Domenico “Italian Dom” Cefalu and underboss Frank Cali are believed to have appointed veteran mobster Bartolomeo “Bobby” Vernace to consigliere during Corozzo’s absence. Vernace would himself be indicted and is currently serving a prison sentence and it is unknown as to who currently holds the consigliere post for the family. If an acting consigliere was named, it may open the door for Corozzo to return to the family’s hierarchy and regain his post. Some sources believe it’s unlikely that Jo Jo returns to the number three spot in the mob family as more favorable options may have already been put into place by Cefalu and Cali.
The Corozzo’s have deep roots in the New York mob and the Gambino family. Joseph’s brother Nicholas “Little Nick” Corozzo allegedly served as boss of the family at one time and his other brothers Blaise Corozzo is an alleged Gambino soldier and Anthony Corozzo a Gambino associate.
Not sure where he stands with Dom and Cali but seems like some more viable options were out there for consigliere and its likely that spot is already filled and Corozzo even though he is well respected probably slots back in at Capo. Will prob be on paper for a while so will stay low key for a bit.
Agreed…I dnt thnk he is even ready to go tht far wth it as well considering wht his probation conditions may be…but on the streets he’s a stand up guy & highly respected so who knws whts in line for’em maybe street boss no less….ijs
Yes will def have some parole restrictions to deal with for a while but he has plenty of outlets to get messages and sort of conduct business if he has to. Will def be interesting to see how he slots back in if at all.

No way he gets his consigliere spot back , he was replaced by Bobby Vernace , if he was getting that spot back he would have been replaced on an acting basis till he was released , the fact he wasn’t speaks volumes , corrozo could take over the corrozo crew , James dellaratta who is running that crew is getting up in age . Corozzo doesn’t need capo or consigliere he is loaded , now that Vernace has been jailed I would guess Lorenzo mannino is the consigliere , he is mega close to cefalu , Cali and John gambino and seems to have been groomed for an admin spot for years
it will be mannino who is the number three i already believe he is the number three. I know some think its john gambino but mannino is the right guy close to the right guys
It wouldn’t surprise me if John gambino has been boss all along , he certainly didn’t look sick in that recent photo with his family in the Dominican Republic
he is defently one of the top players i dont think he is the boss now but 5 years back who knows he could have been running things he was caught on that nicky skins tape though and in my opinion if he had been the boss he would not have been at that meeting with the philly mob just my opinion but like you said it wouldent be a shock
do you think the leadership of this family could be like the westside was in the 70s? i think the gambino are set up like them with there front bosses and that ruling panel with sonny and mannino i think they are catching up with the westside
i think a indicment is coming though its been too quiet it takes time to build these things took three years to take down jackie the nose,celfeau cali and nicky corezzo in 2008
That seems about right Dom. I have seen Mannino mentioned as the probably consigliere today quite a few times and he def seems like a very likely choice. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Corozzo slot back in at captain if nothing else.
Yeah John , and the fact mannino is not listed as a captain anymore tells me he is on the administration , John rizzo or ernie grillo is running that crew now so that speaks volumes , I doubt he has been demoted
