A probe into organized crime in Cleveland, Ohio has led to the arrest of Gambino crime family mobster Carmine Agnello and members of his crew. Cleveland cops and NYPD combined on the long term probe into organized crime activity including auto theft, extortion, and other crimes. Agnello is the former son-in-law of now deceased Gambino family boss John Gotti marrying his daughter Victoria back in 1984 and later divorcing in 2002.
Agnello was indicted back in 2000 in New York on racketeering charges which included running a racketeering enterprise that controlled the Queens scrap metal industry using arson and extortion. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison in that case and was released from prison back in 2008. He married the daughter of an alleged terrorists who as his cell mate while serving his time in an Ohio federal prison and settled down in a Cleveland suburb.

Authorities have not found any connection so far in the ongoing investigation to the current hierarchy of the Gambino family in New York. It seems that Agnello may have been operating independently and was not kicking up money from the operation to the New York mafia. The Cleveland mafia was dismantled by the feds through out the 80’s and early 90’s and the local Cosa Nostra family has been considered inactive for years. In a press conference local police said this case was built to insure that the mafia doesn’t gain a new foothold in Ohio.
Please nobody say this is an alliance between the gambinos and what is left of the Cleveland mob , which isn’t much . Agnello was chased from the gambinos and put on the shelf
I don’t think much at all is left out in Cleveland and what is isn’t in a position to demand tribute or anyone asking permission to operate. This was a solo thing by Agnello and i seriously doubt anyone in the Gambino family cared what he was doing as you mentioned Dom, his time has long been passed as far as the NY mob is concerned. But once a criminal always a criminal so i am not shocked he had something like this put together.

He was definitely a solid earner and i guess after trial and legal fees the fortune he had put together was pretty much destroyed since he was back in the same kind of racket as before and well now busted again.
Carminehas millions he had no reason to get back involved he could of gone legit when peter and later Dom and Jackie shelved him he got luckier than most he got out of the can with money and a way out but he wanted to be a gangster too much he was a hothead back in my 1999 he nearly got involved in a gang war everyone used to say he was a hot head and was dumb not surprised he is just dumb no sympathy and its not just because he divorced Victoria gotti he was shelved sure that was peters reason in the early 2000s but Dom HATED carmine and jackie was not exactly a fan either (Jackie is a good guy but a degenerate he is 75 and of parole soon will be interesting to see how he gets on him and Dom are VERY close)

He was arrested because of who he is, not what he’s done. Btw there are still no charges against him.

I have never met the man personally so i can’t really comment on him being stupid or not and he did make a lot of money on side of Gotti back in Queens in the scrap business and the control of it under the Gambino umbrella. But if he did get back into this racket there in Cleveland which the way things sit now its fair to assume he wasn’t indicted for nothing then i think we would all agree that was a pretty stupid move.

I think a bust like this with just Agnello and a small crew and no links or involvement at all to Cleveland Cosa Nostra helps to prove the family their is pretty much completely done.
