Ndrangheta Mafia Boss Pannunzi Arrested in Colombia

One of the reputed top bosses in the Calabrian Mafia or Ndrangheta known as the most powerful drug broker in the world has been busted in Bogota , Colombia. Roberto Pannunzi was arrested by the Colombian defense ministry using a tip from the U.S. DEA. Italian anti-mafia prosecutor Nicola Gratteri called Pannunzi the “Pablo Escobar of Italy” and says he is with out a doubt the most powerful drug dealers around today. Pannunzi went to Colombia because that’s where the coca grows and where he could organize major drug deals on behalf of the Calabrian Mafia. Gratteri said Pannunzi is the biggest importer of cocaine in the world and can organise drug deals containing shipments as large as 3,000 kilos and up. He is the only man who has the ability to sell and coordinate drug deals between both the Ndrangheta and Cosa Nostra two of the biggest and most powerful mafia organizations in Italy.

“Roberto Pannunzi”

Pannunzi is the second major Calabrian mafia boss to be captured in Colombia this year with Domenico Trimboli previously being captured in Medellin after more then three years on the run. Trimboli was the alleged head of a cocaine trafficking ring which operated between Colombia and Europe. The Ndrangheta has continued to grow and increase its control of the European drug trade and entrench itself into other countries like Canada and the United States. The obscene profits being made through the drug business has allowed the Calabrian Mafia to overtake the Sicilian Mafia or Cosa Nostra as the largest and most powerful mafia in Italy. Many believe they are using this new found power to also attempt a take over of the Canadian drug markets in Montreal by backing a break off group of mobsters trying to overthrow Montreal mob boss Vito Rizzuto and the Rizzuto crime family.
