More violence and bloodshed could be on the horizon as the fight for control of the Montreal mafia continues.
Nicola Spagnolo a key member of the Montreal mafia and the Rizzuto crime family now has a contract on his head according to a recent report from TVA Nouvelles. Spagnolo was met by authorities who apparently informed him of the potential danger according to sources although the Sûreté du Québec would not confirm the story. Nicola was believed to be part of the Montreal mafia leadership table that temporarily took control after the death of longtime boss Vito Rizzuto. The newly formed administration was crippled after the arrests of Montreal mob leaders Stefano Sollecito and Leonardo Rizzuto and murders of Rocco Sollecito and Lorenzo Giordano.

Nicola’s father Vincenzo Spagnolo was shot to death outside of his home in Laval in October in an apparent mafia hit. Vincenzo was a very close friend of Vito Rizzuto and one of his most trusted lieutenants. What remains of the Rizzuto family and those close to them continue to be targeted by the rival faction believed to be backed by the Ndrangheta. Recent information from this previous report has strengthened a theory that the Violi and Cotroni families backed by the Calabrian mafia may be back to take revenge against the Rizzuto family. The Sicilian-based Rizzuto family backed with the support of the Bonanno crime family from New York took control of the mafia in Montreal from the Controni family back in the 1970s after an internal war led to the death of capo Paolo Violi and the downfall of boss Vic Cotroni.
Well it seems like all accounts are not yet settled and the Montreal mafia war is not at an end. If the Ndrangheta is behind this along with the sons of Violi and Cotroni they won’t settle until everyone on the Rizzuto side is gone. Would think by now they would have enough push to just take over as the Rizzuto’s are clearly on their heels but perhaps they are not quite weak enough just yet.

Yes had read that also. things had calmed somewhat for a brief time and it looks like its about to hit the fan again as the new faction settles some more scores.

Why isnt the bonano family helping the rizzutos since they are backed by the Bonnano family ?
They were backed by the Bonanno family in the 70s-late 80s early 90s and then the Rizzuto family went their own way and became a powerful org up there and didn’t need the backing of anyone. They started out as a bit of a extension of the Bonanno family in Mon and then had a falling out then became a much bigger family. They have been called the “sixth family” by some as to their dominance.
The family in charge before the Rizzuto’s was the Cotroni Family. The Cotroni’s were not Sicilian. Nick Rizzuto, Sr. killed all the Cotroni bosses- the Violi brothers. ALL of them. So, the Violi sons have waited for there revenge. And have been exacting that revenge since they whacked out Nick, Jr. and Nick, Sr. They are behind the takeover. Backed by there brethren, the Calabrians in the GTA.
That is what we have been saying well most although that is still just a theory as there has yet to be any real proof the Cotroni and Violi sons are involved. But it would make sense.

not too mention the bonnanos are a shattered group Sal Montagna was murdered in Montreal a few years ago after he attempted to take control of the family im not sure the bonnano are in any positon to offer assistances.. i believe the Rizzuto family to be much stronger then the bonnanos.
Like you said, Bonanno’s aren’t exactly in great shape. I doubt they want any part of war. As John mentioned, highly doubtful their presence is even felt there anymore.
also lets not forget the mob war start after Rizzuto was arrested for the Donnybrasco murders. the reason he was locked up was that RAT Joe Massino. he is the root cause of the MTL mob war

hard to quantiy the Montreal mob is considereal by many the 6th family. one thing they have going for themselves is they openly import huuuuge amounts of drus they directly with cartels huge money maker also the laws in Canada are much more lenient and fin all there isn’t as many organized groups to compete with all this allows for the mtl mob to have huge resources and influences
I think that the genovese are a rutheless mafia they may not inport as much drugs as montreal but they are a very serious family
Rizzuto’s have been out from under Bonnano control for years. They are no longer a Bonnano Regime. They are their own autonomous Family. The Violi sons and nephews are exacting their long awaited revenge. The Rizzuto’s killed ALL of the Violi brothers back in the 70’s.
I know the Nndrangheta is “Blood Thirsty”,but when is enough enough? Do they really have to kill everyone or can remaining Rizzuto Crew say they’re “through”. Most Top Players have Legal Businesses so dying for this seems dumb to me. Just asking especially since all that had a hand in original Rizzuto Take Over are dead now
It seems to be some what personal if the theory is right that the sons of Violi and Cotroni are the ones making a play here then that kind of bad blood usually runs deep. So if that is the case then we will likely see bloodshed until the Rizzuto family is basically extinct.
