Giuseppe Costa, 53, the brother of Rosario Costa, widow of anti-Mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone’s security detail who was killed in 1992 with the magistrate, has been arrested in Palermo over his alleged ties to the Arenella Cosa Nostra.

He has been charged with working for the Mafia by collecting protection money (Pizzo) and helping relatives of detained Mafiosi.
Mafia boss Gaetano Scotto was also arrested at the same time by DDA anti-Mafia investigators. Rosaria Costa, Giuseppe Costa’s sister moved to Tuscany from Sicily after her husband, Vito Schifani was killed.

Schifani and three other policemen were providing security to the magistrate Giovanni Falcone and his wife Francesca Morvillo when they were killed in a bomb attack on May 23, 1992 which was carried out by Cosa Nostra.

At the victims’ funeral, Rosaria directly addressed the Mafia saying “You must know that there is a possibility of forgiveness for you too – I forgive you, but you have to get down on your knees”.
