Whitey Bulger former Boston mob boss found guilty

James “Whitey” Bulger the one time feared Boston mob boss leader of the Winter Hill Gang was convicted of racketeering for his part in multiple murders among other crimes much of which he committed while he was allegedly an FBI informant. Bulger now 83 showed no reaction at all in court when the verdict was announced that finally brought an end to this long running story. The former ruthless Irish mafia boss was charged for his part in 19 murders that took place in 1970’s and 1980’s along with money laundering, extortion, and drug dealing. The jury deliberated for four and a half days before delivering their guilty verdict deciding that Bulger had taken part in 11 of the 19 murders along with the rest of the crimes he was charged with. Bulger could be sentenced to life in prison but at the age of 83 even a shorter term could still amount to a life sentence.

Federal prosecutors portrayed Bulger as a cold blooded hands-on killer who murdered anyone who got in his way. Even killing innocent people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time duing his reign. He was even charged with the strangling of two women with his bare hands and taking naps while his underlings cleaned up the various bodies. Bulger went on the run for 16 years and was one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted before being captured in 2011 in California living with his longtime girlfriend Catherine Greg. Greg has already been sentenced to 8 years in prison for her part in helping Bulger evade law enforcement.
