According to Rogers Media, a new six-part true crime drama series called Bad Blood: The Vito Rizzuto Story which chronicles the life of Vito Rizzuto and the Rizzuto crime family is coming this fall.
The new mafia show is based on the book Business or Blood: Mafia Boss Vito Rizzuto’s Last War written by Peter Edwards and Antonio Nicaso. The new series will be broadcast this fall in English on FX and City and then in French on Radio-Canada. The Vito Rizzuto story will feature acting star Anthony LaPaglia in the lead role as the legendary Montreal mafia boss. It will also feature stars Paul Servino from Goodfellas as Nick Rizzuto Sr. and Kim Coats from Sons of Anarchy as right-hand man Declan Gardiner.
The series was filmed in Montreal and according to the announcement principal photography has been completed. This should be a very interesting look into what has become one of the more interesting mafia families. The ongoing Montreal mafia war continues to make headlines as the potential demise of the once-powerful Rizzuto family continues to play out. Here is an official description of the upcoming series:
“When Rizzuto is suddenly arrested and extradited to Colorado’s Supermax Prison for the 1981 murders of three Bonanno crime family members, the powerful empire he built begins to crumble. Rizzuto watches helplessly as his family and friends are killed one by one. Upon his release from prison in October 2012, a Shakespearean-level revenge tale unfolds, leading to the brutal murders of his closest companions, and ultimately, to the death of Rizzuto himself.”
