Joseph (Joey Caves) Competiello a former mob soldier in the Colombo crime family along with the feds are looking for a reduced sentence for his earlier cooperation. The feds are urging for leniency for the former wiseguy who is facing life in prison after admitting to five murders as part of his plea deal agreed to when he flipped. Competiello has now served six years since his arrest and cooperation and Team America is asking for him to be sentenced to time served.
“Joseph Competiello”
The cooperation of Competiello was the beginning of the end of the Colombo family according to a source in law enforcement. He came forward to help the feds solve the 1997 mob hit on former NYPD officer Ralph Dols which the feds claim caused a chain reaction of others flipping that resulted in the arrest and convictions of a huge chunk of the families made members.
The case had gone unsolved until Joey Caves came forward and fingered the hit team which included then Colombo capo’s Dino Calabro and Thomas Gioeli. Calabro would then decide to himself turn rat and implicate the former Colombo family acting boss Joel Cacace who wanted the hit done because the cop had married his ex-wife. Solving the Dols case and the eventual fallout definitely was a major hit to what many believed to already be the weakest of the five families of the New York Mafia.
Sources believe it is unlikely that a judge next week sentences Competiello to only time served but with the feds behind him its not impossible and he will def be in line for some kind of reduced verdict.

Hmm i would say the Colmbo family was hit hard by this but definitely not dead and alot stronger still than the mobs in Philly,New England and to a certain degree Chicago Outfit. It still has around 60 made guys and over one hundred associates so it is going to be hard for feds to take them down. Out of all the New York families the Colmbo family is the most violent, stupid and contrevoinal. It is always fighting within its self its had three wars and it is always making stupid decisions like this its got nothing to do with business look at the Genovese family they would not do a hit like this they consider themselves to be business its not business its personal. They are also being led by the Persicos who in my opinion are holding the family back most of the leadership panel is in prison and has been since the 80s and 90s
I wouldn’t call them “dead” yet either but they are definitely really beat down at this point and for a NY family in pretty bad shape. Now can they rebound sure but seems like a long road ahead for them to get back to any kind of norm. And your right the Colombo’s have lacked real leadership for years now which has lead to a lot of those problems and is main reason it will be harder for them to bounce back.
What is your problem. If you don’t like what people say here why do you bother coming on reading this
He is a troll , no more no less and has been properly deleted. Thanks The Mafia for all of your contributions.
You have no life.I actually feel sorry for you because you are obviously so bored that you have to come on here looking for argument. Don’t you have anything else you can do in your life but come on here and try and start argument.
Once again taken care of !
Too be honest i am surprised the Colmbo family has been able to keep its self alive for the hits its suffered from the Colmbo war was where all there troubles have begun. Alot mafia families went into decline or had big unrestcommission trial because the commission was not there to stop it especially in the 90s. In philly they went into a war which could have had alot more viloence if not for the mobsters bad aim when shooting. The luchses family went into mass killings. The Gambino family went into a bit of a power struggle of John Gotti was convicted. The Colmbo family went into a internal mob war. New England there was huge amounts of internal fighting and then Whity Bulger came out. The Decavanctle family which the sopranoes are based on went into unrest and a bit of power struggle them selves in the late 90s. All of this is due to the commission decline
Yep i agree the Colombo’s were lucky to escape the internal wars at all but it did take a big tole on the family i think and its partially the reason why they are in the position they are now. Losing such promising leaders and earners like Wild Bill Cutolo and others has left a void in that mob family they can’t seem to fill now and may never again be able too. The family def seems to need an injection of new talent and a new direction at the top. Both of which don’t seem to be happening any time soon if at all.
Yearh when had Cutlo killed it was a big mistake because he is the type of the guy you can’t replace easily
