Vincenzo Spagnolo murdered as bloody Montreal mafia war continues

The ongoing Montreal mafia war has claimed yet another victim as Vincenzo Spagnolo was shot to death at his home in Laval.

Spagnolo was one of the closest and most trusted confidants and best friends of former Rizzuto crime family godfather Vito Rizzuto. The 65-year-old mobster was one of the few people the former Rizzuto family godfather stayed in contact with during his incarceration and was one of the men who met with Vito when he returned to Canada in 2012 after being released from prison. Spagnolo was present at the funeral of Rizzuto clan leader Rocco Sollecito who was shot to death in Laval back in May. His death could have a major impact on the morale of what little is left of the Rizzuto family according to organized crime sources.

Although he was not believed to be heavily involved in the Rizzuto clan’s current criminal operations his death is seen as another severe blow to the mafia family. As the systematic extermination of the Sicilian clan continues mafia experts believe this latest assassination is yet another message that the reign of the Sicilians is coming to an end. Special researcher and mob insider Pierre De Champlain said in an interview with the JournaldeMontreal that “After these setbacks, it is difficult to say whether the Rizzuto clan is still strong enough and has enough staff to replicate,” and he believes as do many others that we are approaching the end of the Rizzuto dynasty.

Nicola Spagnolo the son of Vincenzo allegedly sat at the Montreal mafia leadership table which is now believed to have been dismantled after the arrest of leaders Leonardo Rizzuto and Stefano Sollecito and the murder of his father and interim Rizzuto leader Rocco Sollecito. According to police reports, Stefano Sollecito is still considered to be the head of the Montreal mafia suggesting the Sicilians are still holding a weakening grip on things although it seems like only a matter of time now before the new leaders officially take control. These new leaders are believed by many mob experts to be part of or backed by the Ndrangheta or Calabrian mafia.
